KAKUNODATE

In my work, I strive to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, drawing from the deep well of craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of innovation. Nowhere is this more evident than in my collaboration with Tomioka Shoten, a renowned Japanese company based in Kakunodate. Together, we are crafting a unique collection of decorative panels, using an age-old technique that involves harvesting the bark of wild cherry trees. This bark, carefully sourced from forests undergoing renewal, represents both the beauty and the fragility of nature. The harvesting process is deeply respectful of the environment, with skilled craftsmen selecting only the healthiest trees to ensure sustainability. This collaboration embodies my commitment to preserving the artistry of traditional techniques while integrating responsible, forward-thinking solutions. It’s a union of heritage and innovation, where ancient practices meet modern design, resulting in a collection that is as timeless as it is contemporary.
